Brooch Repairs & Services
On occasions brooch pins can snap and require replacement which can be simply done. By removing the holding pin and replacing the pin and refixing the holding pin back in place.
Floral or decorative Victorian or antiques brooches can become damaged. Either due to the settings (holding the stones) being damaged and requiring repair or some other repair which requires deft work to correct.
Brooch Pins can come loose and fall out, snap or break, these can be replaced or remade.
Brooches have safety chains which can be clipped to traditional brooches or added with a simple jump ring.
Clasps can be replaced on brooches - there are two main styles. The first is the, c shape clasp, which relies on the tension of the brooch pin to hold fast to the material.
Secondly, there is the revolver clasp which as the name suggests, rotates to lock the pin in place so when fastened it will not come adrift.
From a certified Diamond or a Ruby to an Emerald, Sapphire or any gem or stone, if it's missing or damaged, we can help find you another one, in almost any shape, size, style or cut.
The selection is almost limitless, however sometimes we may require a little longer if a popular style and weight has become scarce.
If your stones have fallen out or your jewellery or appears a little misshapen this is likely to be the setting being damaged, which can happen by accident or with age.
The setting is the main structure of the brooch. Setting holds the shape and the design of the article. Basically, the skeletal body of the structure, the framework that holds everything in place.
There are two parts to a setting: the main setting, sometimes known as the gallery and the second part which holds the stones and is known as the top setting.
Whether the top setting is claw set, rub over or pave, grain or tension set, the top of the brooch is most exposed.
All styles of setting can be repaired whether it be a part or full replacement of a damaged area. It is more efficient to replace everything, but this obviously is dependent upon budget and the level of wear. Please bear in mind we cannot guarantee setting work.
Enamel brooches can become damaged by heat or knocking against harder surfaces or water ingress or accidentally grazing the enamel surface. We can restore the enamel back to its original state.
There are modern techniques, which are simple and effective. This includes cloisonné and older enamel articles. Please feel free to send a photo and we can give you an estimate.
We can professionally polish your brooch and bring the sparkle back into your treasured piece. We firstly check over the brooch and then we polish the brooch on polishers, which eventually bring the metal back to a highly polished state.
We then clean your brooch in hot bath, (obviously making sure the gems can withstand the heat of the cleaner agent and that the stones are not porous.)
Finally, we then wash down with hot clean water and then check over settings and then dry.
An engraved message transforms a simple article into a priceless gift. There are various styles of engraving dependent on the material being engraved.
- Hand engraving Is an art form. Every hand engraved article is unique as it is always slightly different and the styles are versatile owing to the engraver’s skill whatever the style from letters to pictures to textures and patterns.
- Machine engraving is formed by machine and looks extremely effective with a great number of styles and fonts available. Also, the speed that the engraving is done is exceptional in comparison to hand engraving. We can provide you an estimate.
We offer a hallmarking service. The assay office will test and hallmark your piece of jewellery once alloy is assessed and purity verified. With our own handmade articles, we have a special mark which is added to hallmark.

The jewellery valuation or appraisal is a detailed in-depth report with photographs of an article. The valuation goes into all aspects of construction, materials, era of jewellery, approximate weights of gems, type of gem family, and possible origins, date article was made and where produced: all aspects are assessed.
There are differing types of valuation. However, the process of valuing is the same for every valuation report.
Valuations are undertaken by either registered valuers or by highly experienced individuals as valuing requires a large degree of practical knowledge in order to undertake this task.
The most frequently requested types of valuation are as follows:
- Valuation for insurance is a report on articles for an insurance company. Ideally it should be carried out every two to three years. This report assesses the article as if it were to be replaced at the present time so if lost a suitable article can be found of the same quality. It is important to keep your valuation report updated and current this can be done simply by asking your jeweller for an updated price as all the initial work has been done.
- A probate valuation is the price the article would fetch, if sold at auction after the death of the owner. The sum assessed will take into account the wear on the article and the open market value, weight of alloys and any other salient factors.
- The new replacement value is a valuation of the average current cost. If lost, as new, today. It does not mean the article has to be handmade or reproduced it means as similar as one purchased from retailer.
- Second hand replacement value is the current second-hand replacement price of a similar article. This most generally applies to older articles of between fifty to one hundred plus years of age, taking into account the current conditions of stones and condition of the article plus quality and the fact that wear is without doubt a factor in commercial value.
Brooches traditionally are made by hand in parts and put together, traditionally stones would be added to give a feminine and more nature driven style such as flowers or heather.
Today with 3D computer aided design and sintering technology, the process has become a great deal simpler, and the craftsman skill has been lost as a general rule.
However, this does not mean that some amazing brooches in 3D cannot be produced. We will require your patience as we need to supply you with an estimate before we can commence work.
Cufflink Repairs & Services
Precious metal cufflinks have become popular again over the last few years: there are three styles of cufflinks - chain, fixed and sprung.
With all types of cufflinks, we can carry out effective repairs. A replacement chain end bar and spring (in swivel types), can all be carried out: all spring style cufflinks can sometimes be very tricky and not cost effective.
Enamel cufflinks can become damaged by heat or knocking against harder surfaces or water ingress or accidentally grazing the enamel surface. We can restore the enamel back to its original state.
There are modern techniques, which are simple and effective. This includes cloisonné and older enamel articles. Please feel free to send a photo and we can give you an estimate. Alternatively, we can produce an enamel design for you which is completely unique to you.
With precious metal cufflinks it is a tradition to engrave the initials of the recipient, and the date of relevance: however, this is very traditional and if you would like something more bespoke let us know, we will require some time to engrave two or three weeks.
In some cases, an exuberant gift is necessary, we can modify your cufflinks, to add stones or perhaps marginally change the shape.
Although your cufflinks individually may be below the basic threshold to be insured individually, it is worthwhile adding them as a group of articles, so if you do suffer a theft or a loss you are covered. It is best to do all your jewellery valuations at one time this will save your cost.
We proffer a high jewellery range which is a range of subtle design styles with a modern take, on the traditional. However, if you have an idea we can make it for you, for that ultimate lifetime gift.
