Redesign & Remodelled

When your unwanted and outdated jewellery is lying unused, it can be reduced to create something new, by melting the articles together and creating an ingot: which is then worked on and run through a series of rollers many times until wire is formed. Once the correct thickness of wire is made the craftsman can make your chosen piece for you.

Starting with wire of differing thicknesses the craftsman forms the various parts of the jewellery. The goldsmith then assembles the different components by hand.

He fashions the article and solders and prepares the mount adding any finishing touches such as stone setting or adding any engraving or special decorative finish and then finally polishing to finish.

Bespoke and custom jewellery designed using CAD OR 3D design technology.  A designer will produce a bespoke drawing for you, and then we create a resin model.

The model is an exact physical copy of the piece; this is extremely useful as it works as an accurate physical representation.

When you inherit jewellery it may potentially not be to your taste, in a lot of cases the stone shapes can be older and currently unfashionable, perhaps the jewellery is too large or overbearingly formal.

We can sensitively disassemble your jewellery to utilise the relevant parts and make new articles of jewellery for example, a five stone diamond ring can be modified to an earring and pendant suite which is sensitively made.

When you have pieces of jewellery which are unwanted or broken or simply out of vogue of differing ages and precious metals of differing  carats, we can (with sufficient metal),melt down your precious metals and create an ingot. From this point we can fashion a piece of unique jewellery for you.

The process of casting and creating replicas from an original model is simple. Firstly, we produce a metal model, then this is packed into a frame, rubber is pressed around the model.

The rubber melts and tightly packs around the model; it is then placed into a press which creates a solid block: the block is then sliced in two; the original model is removed and a channel created.

Molten wax is now injected into the void; allowing time to set the mould is opened up again, and an exact replica has been created in wax, this process is repeated until a number of wax replicas are produced, these are placed on a stem to create a tree of articles, these are placed onto a base and these are inserted into a flask.

The flask is filled with investment (a solution not dissimilar to plaster of Paris), this hardens under heat. The cylinder containing the wax tree is placed in an oven, the investment solution hardens and the wax melts out of cylinder, leaving a perfect wax less void.

The final stage is molten metal is flung into the wax less model void, at centrifugal force. Now the mould is full of gold, the alloy cools. The hard investment outer is removed, what is left is a number of perfect reproduction models, created from the original wax tree, these are now ready to be cleaned and made ready for the finishing processes.

Cuttle fish casting is the oldest technique of producing a rough simple cast, efficient and basic: Cuttle fish husks are ideal for this purpose as when dry and it has a soft inner, which is dense and ideal for casting.

We create an impression by simply pushing the model into one side of the husk, making sure you have an impression which is deep enough on both parts: you then cut a channel for the molten metal will reach the impression, in the Centre. Once the molten metal has been poured and left to cool and harden we knock off the shell and then start the work of finishing the ring.

If you are fond of your jewellery and want to modify it so you don’t lose any of it, we can merge two or more pieces of jewellery together. Joining the parts together is the simplest way to keep your much loved jewellery relevant, an example of this would be a wedding band and the engagement ring: by joined together  both pieces by cutting off the head of the ring and moulding the wedding band, so it will work as a ring band and utilising otherwise redundant jewellery.
